Openings & Shows

Don’t Call It A Holiday Show (And Market!)

The 57 Biscayne Building is hosting an SPA Member Show!  December 5th, as part of the First Thursday Artwalk in Pioneer Square, the 57Biscayne Building is opening their doors for an open studio / holiday market which will feature various artist vendors.  SPA will have a space in the building to feature a show of member work AND have the option to set up a table and vend during the opening.  The building's holiday market typically brings in a lot of people, so this is a good opportunity to sell work.

The show is open themed. Any work on paper using printmaking techniques are acceptable for submission.  You can go Holiday or not go Holiday with this one.   The work should be UNFRAMED and preferably be for sale.  Work should be priced $250 or under.  Smaller work is encouraged (18 x 24inch max paper size).

Barbie, New Wave, Queer liberation, baby girls, constricting femininity, “girl power”, fifties kitchens, coral reefs, pepto bismol, corsages, communists, sunsets, faded roses of days gone by…

The color pink has multitudinous cultural and emotional associations, and armies of fans and detractors alike. On the other hand, pink is also just a range of wavelengths of light that never asked for any of this. Among our jobs as artists unpacking messes like these.

For our next member show we are looking for artwork in any media that explores the aesthetic, concept, cultural implication, and the pinkness of pink. Work may be in two or three dimensions, and the gallery also has the ability to show video.

The essentials:

  • One piece per member.

  • Wall-hung must be ready to hang, with a wire attached (framed works on paper or integral constructions such as stretched canvases)

  • No specific size restrictions, but the gallery is not that big, so please contact us about anything very large or complicated.

  • Deadline to register: FEBRUARY 29 (leap day!)

If you can register by FEBRUARY 8 (with or without an image) there is a better chance of including you in advance publicity materials.

Give & Take: Works from the 2022 SPA Portfolio Exchange

March 9 - May 10, 2023
M. Rosetta Hunter Gallery, Seattle Central College

This exhibit presents the 2022 SPA Annual Print Exchange entries and a selection pulled from a collection of more than twenty years of similar exchanges. It’s a chronicle of the creative achievements and techniques practiced by SPA members over the last couple of decades, creating a snapshot of the ongoing fellowship, traditions, and explorations of the region’s print artists.
