Racial Justice

Seattle Print Arts stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.

Printmaking is a political tool as well as a tool for community. Our board and membership are assessing, learning, and implementing ways to support Black printmakers and artists. We aim to be an anti-racist organization that aids in breaking down the systems that uphold structural racism in our community.

Land Acknowledgment

Seattle Print Arts acknowledges the land on which we gather as the traditional home of the Coast Salish people and all tribes and bands within the Duwamish, Suquamish, Tulalip, and Muckleshoot nations. Without it we would not have access to this gathering and to this dialogue and we thank the original caretakers of this land, who are still here. We encourage you to join in paying Real Rent which goes to support the Duwamish Longhouse and cultural activities.

Our goals and actions:

Continue to diversify Seattle Print Arts’ board and membership to include the broader Seattle community, including BIPOC, LGBTQ and nonbinary people, and people from a range of economic backgrounds and abilities.

Become more accessible and engage within the greater Seattle artistic community.

Celebrate and advocate the power and relevance of printmaking in daily life.

Review organization bylaws to identify barriers to SPA’s ability to engage with the community and artists of color.

Expand our membership in order to better serve as a catalyst, a leader, and a financial resource for the printmaking community.

Bring in, and compensate, a racially diverse range of artists to speak, do print or book arts demos, and show their work.

Continue to offer pay-what-you’re able membership starting at $1/year to make SPA’s resources and opportunities available to a broader community.
